EH&S has formed an internal Health Planning Team to monitor the status of campus activities and responses to the H1N1 virus.

UCR has formed a Public Health Planning Steering Committee comprised of executive management. Their focus is to guide the Public Health Action Plan through the introduction, development, and implementation process for campus leadership. Additionally, the Public Health Planning Committee was formed to review and refine the Public Health Action Plan.

EH&S has begun training Campus Health Center staff on the use of N95 Respirators.

EH&S has developed a guidance document (fact sheet) revolving around prevention, vaccinations, and sanitation. Additionally, the flu website was connected to the Campus Status website.

On Monday, September 28th, Gretchen Bolar, Chair of the UCR Public Health Planning Steering Committee, delivered a presentation at the Chancellor’s Cabinet Meeting which included the current draft version of the Public Health Action Plan, and an update on campus preparedness activities related to the H1N1 virus. Additionally, invited guest Dr. Eric Frykman, Riverside County’s Public Health Officer, was on hand to speak about the solid partnership that UCR and the Riverside County Department of Public Health has built, his impressions of the draft plan, and to answer any questions from those present regarding Riverside County’s guidance for the H1N1 virus

A draft of the Public Health Action Plan was presented to the Public Health Planning Steering Committee and the Public Health Planning Committee. It was also presented to the UCR Operations Council on 09/14/09.

Currently there are no restrictions regarding public assemblage. People presenting influenza like illness are advised not to attend public events, and are advised to leave if they begin to feel ill or present ILI. There are no isolation actions being taken.

Campus Health Center staff are asked to follow the Cal/OSHA standard during patient care. Surgical masks, gloves, and eye protection are advised for those employees who may have contact with ill students.

Vaccinations
Posted November, 6, 2009The Campus Health Center has received H1N1 vaccinations and will be conducting Flu Shot Clinics at various campus locations beginning Friday, November 6th. Flu Shot Clinic locations and hours are posted on the Campus Health Center website.
Posted October, 16 2009 The CDC has begun distribution of the H1N1 flu vaccine in the first week of October. As the quantities of distribution are uncertain at this time check with the Campus Health Center or your local health care provider for availability.

People infected with H1N1 flu are potentially contagious for up to 7 days. Children (10 years and under) are potentially contagious for longer periods of time. Read more >>

The CDC has projected that the H1N1 vaccine will be available in early October. The Campus Health Center has placed an order for the vaccine with the State, which will be made available when received on campus.
