Programs & Services:

Biosafety
The Biosafety Program helps laboratory workers work safely with all types of biohazards.
Emergency Management
Southern California is a disaster theme park. Riverside County has suffered well over thirty declared disasters since 1950, including two in the first two months of 2005! When nature or humans reach out to touch UCR, Emergency Management is there -- planning what to do, coordinating the campus response, and helping put the pieces back together again.
Environmental Health
The Environmental Health Program prevents people from getting sick by making sure that the food you eat is free from bacteria and the water you drink is not contaminated with chemicals. The environmental health program also keeps swimming pools clean and clear, and prevents rats, mosquitoes and other disease causing pests from being a nuisance.
Environmental Programs
EH&S helps you plan your work and activities so that they are safe while taking care to protect the environment. We can also explain environmental programs and policies, and guide your compliance with environmental regulations.
Ergonomics
Ergonomics is a method used to prevent injuries from repetitive motions, unchanging and/or poor postures when seating, kneeling, or standing, and forceful motions or grips on objects.
Fire Safety
The Fire Safety Program assists the campus with protection of life and property from the effects of smoke, fire, and related hazards. This includes consultation and design services, oversight of fire protection systems maintenance, periodic recurring inspection activity, and related services.
Hazardous Materials
Many don't realize just how much hazardous materials are a part of our lives. We can help you manage your chemical inventory, consolidate and display your hazardous material emergency information, and provide guidance for properly shipping hazardous materials.
ISEM
UCR has regulatory, operational, policy, and ethical obligations to protect ourselves and our community regarding the health, safety and environmental aspects of our activities. Achieving excellence in this mandate requires a system that is “owned” where the work or activity takes place, with guidance and assistance from centralized resources.

The campus program is being revised to assure that health, safety and environmental considerations are integrated into the planning and execution of all work and activities conducted by UCR faculty and staff.

Using the Integrated Safety and Environmental Management (ISEM) system will enhance each department's ability to achieve and maintain compliance with safe, yet efficient practices.
Laboratory & Research Safety
Laboratory & Research Safety provides information, guidance and technical support to encourage an excellent safe campus instruction and research program.
Radiation Safety
Everyone who uses radiation in its various forms must comply with federal and state requirements as well as any additional requirements established by the university.

The Radiation Safety Program assists with radiation user responsibilities through an authorization process that verifies whether individuals have appropriate training and experience, and that equipment, facilities, proposed uses, and procedures will reasonably protect health, life and property. We also provide expert advice on all aspects of radiation safety, and ongoing services to ensure compliance with all requirements and minimize radiation exposure.
Risk Management
The Risk Management program is a campus resource for the strategic management of operations in order to minimize the risks and liabilities to the University. Included is the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program which aids in in determining the most effective and efficient means of program implementation and compliance monitoring.
Safety & Industrial Hygiene
Safety & Industrial Hygiene (S&IH) ensures the general health and safety of the campus community by supplying information, services and equipment to help UCR workers and students identify, evaluate and control potentially harmful activities in their work and learning environment.

S&IH can help you prevent injuries and illnesses whether you are working on a computer or on a forklift, it investigates indoor air quality (IAQ) issues and complaints, it tests/certifies campus fume hoods, and provides a variety of other services.
Sustainability
Sustainability is the balance of environmental, social, and economic needs in management. This program seeks to achieve continuous improvement of our campus environmental quality and sustainability.
Training
Training promotes a safe & healthy working environment. Every department has EH&S training requirements that must be met to comply with state, federal and local regulations. We can help identify training requirements based on the work or activities performed, and determine effective ways to complete training requirements for you or your department.
Waste Management
EH&S can help you manage hazardous chemical, radioactive, medical and other wastes safely and legally.
