National Stand Down Week logo

May 1st –5th is National Stand Down to Prevent Falls Week!

The Stand Down was originally conceived by OSHA in 2014 as part of the National Campaign to Prevent Falls in Construction to raise awareness surrounding the severity of fall hazards in the workplace and the importance of preventing them.

EH&S encourages all UCR departments who have employees who work from heights to take time this week for a “safety stand-down.” A Stand Down means to take a few moments in the normal workday to pause and shift focus on reviewing safety procedures and policies, discuss hazards in the workplace, review and inspect equipment and/or share safety tips for working from heights, such as Fall Protection and Ladder Safety.

EH&S has a variety of resources to help with conducting a “Stand Down,” including:

Come to the Ladder Inspection Event

Get your ladders inspected by the EH&S Safety Engineer, Tracy Stark on Wednesday, May 3rd from 10am – 2pm at the Corporate Yard. Tracy will perform an equipment inspection, provide an inspection sticker and show you how to conduct a monthly inspection on your own equipment in order to help keep you and your team safe from falls.
